Cherina Mastrantones is a bassist, composer, and educator whose career spans jazz, Latin, classical, and contemporary music. Based in New York City, she has brought her artistry from symphony halls to jazz clubs, international tours, and community programs, sharing music that bridges cultures and generations.
Cherina continues to balance her work as a performer, composer, and educator, bringing warmth, depth, and connection to every stage and classroom she enters.
As Principal Bassist with the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra since 2018, Cherina has performed under the baton of esteemed conductor Felipe Tristan, including international tours to Mexico City and Mérida, Mexico. Her performance credits extend to collaborations and tours Joe Cuba (Japan) , RuPaul (Atlanta) , and Joan Osborne, and Japanese saxophonist Masa Wada . She has appeared with the Kit McClure Big Band, the Lynn Oliver Big Band, and the Harlem Renaissance Big Band, including a televised performance at the Democratic Convention in NYC. Her recording work spans projects on the Billboard Latin Charts with PR/NY , Afrika Bambaataa “Zulu Wildstyle” EP, independent New York rock groups, in addition to her own solo release, “Confession” featuring original jazz quintet compositions.
As a composer she composed 8 Big Band original compositions for BMI Jazz Composer’s Workshop.
As a researcher she co-authored two books with the esteemed Cuban bassist Feliciano Arango.Her research included 13 extended trips to Havana, Cuba culminated in a workshop at the Berklee School of Music ,Boston, MA. alongside Feliciano Arango.
